How Many Pints Of Blood Are There In The Human Body?

The average adult has 10 pints of blood, depending on weight. Men average 10 to 11 pints and women nine to 10, says Dr. Mark Popovsky, medical director of the New England region of the American Red Cross. The wonder of the circulation system is blood`s life-giving ability and the body`s capacity to regenerate the components of blood within hours, days or weeks, depending on the component, Popovsky says. The Food and Drug Administration requires that blood donors wait eight weeks between donations, although the body can replace the lost plasma in hours and the platelets in a day. Within three to four weeks, the body regenerates the red cells.
